The nearly planar and circular orbits of the planets in our Solar System led two eighteenth-century natural philosophers, Kant and Lapla-e, to postulate that planets form in circumstellar disks, So there was great excitement when a dust disk was finally seen around the nearby bright star (3 Pictoris in 1984. The study of this disk has yielded tremendous scientific returns over the past decade, Images of similar disks around other stars would give us clues about the diversity of planetary systems, but until now they have been elusive. Therefore the image of what may be a dust disk around the binary starsBD+31°643 presented by Kalas and Jewitt on page 52 of this issue is of great interest.
