Nearly all oil production forecasts indicate that EOR will play an increasingly important role in global production in the next few decades. This is not the result of the opinions of EOR optimists, but of a series of concrete efforts in several areas of the industry to ensure finding and reaching EOR's actual potential. What remains uncertain is how big EOR's potential truly is (projections range from a tripling of production from EOR to an increase by a factor a 20) and when it will be unlocked.
