Petroleum Frontiers has examined two types of frontiers in exploration over the years. First, several issues have been devoted to technological frontiers; exciting new developments in enhanced oil recovery, horizontal drilling, cross-well seismology, log analysis and gravity and magnetics have been the focus of past issues. Of course, most volumes have been devoted to frontiers in space — new or renewed plays and basins in regions as far-flung as Libya, Colombia, West Texas and Wyoming. Some of these were frontiers geographically; others represented frontiers in depth, plays that were below (and above) the known producing horizons in established hydrocarbon provinces. This issue, however, investigates an altogether different type of frontier from those in space; here we will look into a "frontier in time" — oil and gas from the Precambrian.
