Electric reserve costs need to be justifiable for ratepayers as US gridoperators consider reserve product designs to ensure they haveenough supply to meet demand, experts warned Sept. 14.The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is examining potentialreforms to the energy and ancillary services markets as electric reliability continues to be a hot topic following recent major outages.Regional transmission organizations and independent systemoperators have turned to an operating reserve demand curve (ORDC)that raises operating reserve prices in times of high demand and lowreserves.
