India’s National Aluminium Company, or nNalco, has started commissioning various nexpanded capacities of its alumina refinery nat Damanjodi, in Orissa state, including a nco-generation power plant, an evaporation nplant, a stacker and a bauxite circuit for nthe production of alumina. “We started nthe commissioning activities last week nand expect to complete the process within ntwo to three months,” a company source nsaid Tuesday. “The refinery is expected to nstart ramping up capacity in July to reach nthe full 2.1 million mt/year by June or July n2012,” the source added. The expansion nhas lifted the refinery’s design capacity to n2.1 million mt/year from a previous 1.575 nmillion mt/year, and there are further nplans to upgrade total alumina capacity nto 2.275 million mt/year in the next two nyears.
