National Grid (NG) has warned that the extra costs of coping with more wind farms on the transmission system and the implementation of the Large Combustion Plant Directive (LCPD) could substantially increase transmission constraint costs. Ofgem has asked NG to put forward proposals for next year's incentive scheme to keep down the costs of running the transmission system. NG says that underlying forecast costs for next year are more or less the same as this year ie ￡400 million. However, it says that the demands of extra wind power and the LCPD are going to increase additional costs from ￡57 million to ￡130 million.
