United Utilities has sold the assets of Norweb, its electricity distribution business, for ￡1.14 billion to North West Electricity Networks - a consortium of Commonwealth Bank of Australia and JP Morgan's infrastructure fund. However, UU will remain operator of the assets until 2015 as part of a separate contract worth ￡1.5 billion.There is also the potential for this contract to be extended for a further five years to 2020. The winning consortium beat off a number of other bidders for the assets including Cheung Kong Infrastructure and Arcapita. Deutsche Bank advised United on the sale.
