Electricite de France (EDF), E.ON and/or RWE could build the UK's next nuclear power plant in a consortium with British Energy, possibly in a deal involving acquisition of all or part of the 65% of BE's equity that is available to be sold by the UK government, industry officials said last month. The three continental utilities have "expressed strong interest" in participating in nuclear construction in the UK provided the government gives a "green light for nuclear energy" and financial conditions are right, said Mike Parker, group executive for British Nuclear Fuels (BNFL).
