摘要

This paper summarises a literature review undertaken for the North Central Catchment Management Authority. The aim was to review current fire knowledge in regard to the effects of prescribed fire on flora and fauna species and communities, and facilitate the creation of broad criteria for the establishment (or otherwise) of an appropriate burning regime for privately-owned Box-Ironbark remnants. A conservative approach to burning with minimum fire intervals of 20-25 years was recommended to avoid undue long-term impacts on extant flora and fauna communities. However, we are yet to identify a burning regime which might enhance (rather than simply maintain) biodiversity of Box-Ironbark remnants.
