American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) has published a guidance booklet, "Focus Four for Health: An Initiative to Address Four Major Construction Health Hazards," to raise awareness about health hazards in construction. The guidance stresses the importance of recognizing health hazards in addition to safety risks.The guidance encourages the construction industry to focus on four health hazards: 1) manual material handling; 2) noise; 3) air contaminants; and 4) high temperatures. Each section describes the hazard, the severity of health effects, trades commonly affected and strategies that can be used to control the hazard.
