The volume includes seven articles dwelling on the different dimensions of Japan's relationship with Southeast Asian nations over the years. The articles examined the efficacy of Yoshida and Fukuda doctrines that guided Japan's bilateral ties; compared the performance of the trade and industry ministries of Japan and Malaysia in terms of promoting economic development and global competitiveness; discussed the factors that have affected/ impinged on the relationship of Japan and ASEAN; explored the role of the Philippine Information Bulletin as well as the Domei Tsushin (United News Agency) before and during World War II; and identified historical events that were promoted and downplayed by both Japan and the Philippines in the interest of mending ties and promoting good relations.
