Estonian Cell has contracted Finnish engineering company Valmet to rebuild its pulp plant in Kunda. Valmet informs that the measures will be executed in two stages. The first stage will see Valmet upgrade the existing machine producing BCTMP pulp. This would result in higher capacity and a reduction in steam emissions as well as consumption of fresh water and chemicals, the company said. In the second stage, Valmet intends to install a new slab press and a transport belt. The order placed with Valmet is part of a €20m investment programme of Estonian Cell, a sub- sidiary of Austria's Heinzel group, to increase annual pulp output to 185,000 t. In 2017, Estonian Cell produced 171,708 t of aspen BCTMP pulp. The company did not provide details of investment costs. According to Valmet, similar orders involve an outlay of €5-10m. Commissioning of the rebuilt pulp mill is planned for the second quarter of 2019.
