摘要

In an age when celebrities are created after 5 min in front of a television camera or through a video going viral on the internet, most people would be forgiven for thinking that both the word and the status have lost all meaning and impact. According to the editors of this Companion, however, "the study of celebrity is one of the fastest growing areas of contemporary academic scholarship", and the culture of celebrity "endures as a remarkable social, cultural, economic and, perhaps surprisingly, political phenomenon". In an informative new reference guide, P. David Marshall, author of Celebrity and Power (Marshall, 2014), and, Sean Redmond, joint editor of Framing Celebrity (Holmes and Redmond, 2006), together with over 20 international academic contributors, aim to cast (lime) light on the purpose and power of celebrity from the origins of fame to social media and reality television.

David Marshall(2014年,Marshall)和Framing Celebrity的联合编辑Sean Redmond(2006年,Holmes和Redmond)与20多个国际学术贡献者共同努力。从成名的起源到社交媒体和现实电视,对名人的目的和力量进行(石灰)分析。
