Yet another encyclopedia, and this one whimsically named: a familiar refrain at the desks of reference librarians everywhere. And so the only thing to do is find out whether, this time, this one is really different and really useful. The Way We Work comes out quite well from a period of using it regularly over some days, and reminds me of an ideal lecturer able to answer questions when you ask them (really answer them and not just pontificate!). It is a reference work clearly intended for school and college levels, and above all a North American readership, but, in its selection of entries and in the clear style of the entries, it does a good job in representing many of the key terms and ideas currently washing around in business and management culture and practice. Many of these terms and ideas are international (like management itself) and so this book is likely to sell well where English is spoken. Its neat and stylish covers and format make it the kind of book younger users of libraries would pick up and use. The prelims appear in both of the two volumes, and include a useful thematic guide.
