The U.S. plastic bottle recycling rate declined to just under 30 percent in 2016, continuing a downward turn that began a year earlier after more than two decades of solid growth. Meanwhile, Resource Recycling has learned the U.S. UBC recycling rate declined to 49.4 percent in 2016, its lowest level in years. UBC stands for used beverage cans, a term used in the industry to describe aluminum beverage cans.
