In the city known for live music and long-horns, Austin, Texas officials have announced that a single-stream recycling program will extend to more than 155,000 households in 2008. In January 2005, the city's Solid Waste Services Division administered an "All-in-One" pilot program that tested picking up recyclables every other week in 60-gallon carts. The pilot was so successful that city officials have now chosen to implement the program citywide, giving residents the opportunity to recycle plastic bottles (No. 1 and No.2), glass bottles and jars, aluminum cans, steel/tin cans, newspapers, magazines, catalogs, junk mail, office paper, boxboard (such as cereal and shoe boxes) and corrugated cardboard all into one bin.
