Mechanical Properties of LY-12 Connecting Structure: Influence of Corrosion and Quenching

This paper conducts a corrosion experiments by quenching and un-quenching connecting structure of LY-12 sheet and fastening bolt on two temperatures of 25 degrees C and 40 degrees C, with a NaCl solution concentration of 3%, 3.5% and a clearance width of 0.02 mm, 0.06 mm and 0.1 mm, respectively. Static experiments on the mechanical properties were performed and the analysis on conservation rate of mechanical property of the samples after corrosion on the corresponding stations revealed that quench can improve basic mechanical properties only, but it could not change the degraded rate of mechanical properties in comparison to unquenched. Moreover, the constant ratio is not changed by corrosion environment of initial mechanical properties between them. It is the Lognormal distribution that matches the data of the depth of crevice corrosion pits best no matter it is quenched or not. It was also observed that the smaller the crevice sizes, deeper the depth of the corrosion pits.
