Environmental Education (EE) has been a fundamental component of educational system the world over for decades. The way in which it should be introduced in the system is one of the most difficult problems of its implementation. Various approaches have been developed, each one with both benefits and drawbacks. The classroom implementation approaches can be distinguished in two general categories: the separate topic approach or EE as a subject (interdisciplinary) and the cross-curricular, integrated approach or EE incorporated with different disciplines (multidisciplinary). The present paper describes the meaning and scope of EE, looks at the roots of EE in educational curriculum, and explains the goals of different implementation approaches to EE and their advantages and limitations.
