This book is the latest of the Advanced Series on Ocean Engineering. Several volumes have covered coastal hydrodynamics, structures, and sediment transport, but this is the first to devote more than a few pages to topics such as estuarine processes and coastal groundwater.rnPeter Nielsen identifies the audience of the book as students of civil and environmental engineering and earth and environmental science, in addition to practicing professionals who he believes will find it useful as a handbook. The book should satisfy these audiences except for some who might not be enthusiastic about the large number of equations. For example, the first chapter on waves is 106 pages long and has 175 equations, and the remainder of the book has a similar page/equation ratio.
