In fiscal year 1997, the AFCEA Educational Foundation launched the Chapter Initiatives Grant program by helping to fund five chapters' proposals for local projects. The grants are intended to fund planned projects in addition to existing AFCEA chapter educational or scholarship programs. The foundation solicits proposals each year from chapters. In fiscal year 2005, twenty-two chapters, including five international chapters, submitted proposals. One of these proposals has made a significant impact at 36 elementary schools in the Montgomery, Alabama, city and county public school systems.
