摘要

During the 1991 Gulf War, 'Voice of the Gulf, the psy-op radio network broadcast over Iraqi-held Kuwait. More than 29 million leaflets were dropped to eventually induce large numbers of Iraqi soldiers to defect or surrender. Prior to the 1994 intervention into Haiti, United States military planes broadcast radio and TV messages from deposed President Jean-Bertrand Aristide and dropped portable radios explaining the mission of American soldiers. These examples continue to be counted as success stories of American expeditions. The same United States of America, however, has struggled immensely in Afghanistan to ensure that its messages are heard and believed by the Afghan people. This is one of the major reasons why the 16-year-old war is yet to produce a clear winner, convincingly sums up Thomas H. Johnson in his compilation of stories disseminated by the Taliban to script a seemingly undefeatable narrative of dominance in the war-ravaged country.
