Increasingly competitive forces are pressing manufacturers of nearly every type of machine to reduce the time between initial design concept and the start of production. At present, much of this time is spent troubleshooting so that early warning of likely problems is possible. For this reason machinery manufacturers are now placing more and more emphasis on predictive methods during the design stage. The prediction of noise, vibration and harshness of automobiles (NVH) is no exception to this trend and this article describes some recent developments in this area.
