摘要

Experimental modal analysis techniques were used to evaluate the vibration characteristics of golf clubs in order to identify why some clubs feel good and others do not when hitting a golf ball. Drivers and irons from two different manufacturers were tested. Three types of tests were performed using pseudorandom, sinusoidal and impact excitation. The objective of these tests was to identify if the translational and rotational modes of vibration contribute to club feel. A figure of merit (FOM) was defined and calculated for each club tested in order to compare different clubs in terms of their vibration characteristics. The tests revealed that the angular motion (torsion of the head about the shaft's longitudinal axis) represented the major contribution of vibrations communicated to the golfer's hands.
