Four hours after the Camp Fire broke out Nov.8,one of Planet's Dove satellites captured an im age of the deadly Northern California blaze,not because it was tasked to observe the area or detect fire but because the com pany gathers daily,global Earth im agery with m ore than 130 satellites.The California O ffice of Em ergency Services noticed the im age Planet tweeted and im m ed iately co n ta cted th e San F ran cisco com pany.Within 24 hours,Planet employees were in the agency's m ission control center,providing access to medium-resolution im agery from Planet's shoebox-size Doves as well as high-resolution and near-infrared imagery from its dorm -room -refrigerator-size SkySats.
