In the year of the 50th anniversary a series of publications is started to introduce the activity of the Research Institute of the Hungarian Sugar Industry from the time of foundation to the present. The first part deals with the beet growing, storage, slicing, extraction and microbiological control. Scientific results and developments in construction of equipments on these fields (e.g. J-diffusion) are discussed and a detailed list of publications is given.
