Nanofibre layers combined with conventional nonwo-vens create composite fabrics that are increasingly finding applications in filtration. Air filtration is already a well-developed market for such materials, but more recently liquid filters and battery separators have emerged as alternative applications, and ones that are now growing in importance. In addition to these separation media, the materials are being developed for medical applications (such as woundcare, cell-culture scaffolds and even drug-delivery systems) and there is growing interest in the use of inorganic/ceramic nanofibres for generating and storing energy, and as catalysts.
