Technical textile manufacturers have been quick to respond to the need for large amountsrnof material to contain and clean up the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, stepping uprnproduction to supply vast quantities of traditional products, as well as evaluating novelrnsolutions with an eye to dealing with future disasters, writes John W. McCurry.rnTechnical textile manufacturers and suppliers in the USA responded quickly to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill and have been consistently providing an array of traditional and new products in an effort to clean up and contain the oil from this massive environmental disaster. A wide variety of companies have been supplying products ranging from fibres to coated fabrics. The oil spill has resulted in a significant, albeit temporary, increase in business for these firms. Following is a glimpse of the involvement of just some of the textile companies who have supplied various products.
