摘要

Student motivation to use science and mathematics can be generated from the excitement of an authentic engineering design project. The challenge is getting students to use grade-appropriate science and math before deciding on a final design solution. To accomplish this challenge, the criteria and constraints must contain grade-appropriate requirements for a successful design. The authors have found that the T-shirt launcher design project has generated enough excitement that students are willing to tackle difficult scientific and mathematic concepts within their designs.
