The closing years of this decade are witnessing some of the most dramatic changes ever to have taken place in the man-made fibres industries of the western world. Several fibre production operations long regarded as pillars of the industry have come - or look like coming — under new control as the original major chemical group owners seek better returns in other fields. Additionally, organisations from outside the region are becoming more involved, as global strategies develop and what is commonly described as a process of rationalisation intensifies.
