The decrease in road related deaths is the 'result of ever-improving vehicle safety'and scrappage schemes may have also contributed to this statistic. The act of scrapping, trading bangers for new cars, is thought to have directly contributed to the 20% fall in car occupants killed on Britain's roads in the last year. The number of people who died in road accidents fell from 2,222 in 2009 to 1,857 in 2010.
