Ladies and gentlemen, colleagues and friends. it is, indeed, a matter of great pleasure for me to be here with you today. I am thankful to the organizers for having invited me to share with you some of my views on both the existing and emerg- ing issues, having long term direct influence on our agriculture. Food security is defined as access to all, at all times, to the food needed for an active and healthy life. Food security envisages three basic issues: availability, stability, and accessibility.
