While I quite understand BALPA's concern over the conduct of some companies and their employment policies, I also fail to see anyone offering viable solutions or alternatives to the problem. The bottom line is that if you are a newly qualified pilot and wish to fly for the airlines and have not gone through a sponsored course there are precious few options open to you. While easyJet and Ryanair might offer lamentable terms of employment, they are at least offering employment to low hour pilots. I do not see many of the larger, more established airlines offering jobs to any pilot with less than a few thousand hours with a good number of turbine hours thrown in. Given how much we have to pay to train as pilots, breaking even for a year or two while we gain the required turbine hours might not be a bad bet.
