One of the UK's major shiprepairers, the A&P Group, reports that like the rest of the ship repair and conversion industry it enjoyed a good 2008, with docks being full and order books far better than in previous years. The high charter rates enjoyed by many of the owners proved a distinct advantage to ship repair yards that are able to turn around vessels in a timely manner. The debate now must be where will the market go in 2009 and beyond.rnFor ship repair A&P says that it will of course see a continued requirement for class dockings; however owners are sure to tighten their belts and spend minimal amounts on their ships. The company suspects that time will not be as big of an issue when charter rates are low, and this, combined with lower fuel prices, will see owners moving back to the lower priced regions for their dockings.
