The recent trend in the Sub-Sahara region favors cigarette exports from local factories over those from the operations of multinationals in Europe and the U.S. Much of the recent growth in cigarette trade involved shipments from some countries within the region to customers in other countries of the region. South Africa had the largest, most consistent cigarette exports for any country in the region in recent years, but gains by some other countries were interesting.
