摘要

Europe's operators have been reluctant to build fibre-to-the-home networks, but now two altnets have taken up the challenge. But do the figures add up? As European incumbents battle with regulators over granting next generation network access to competitors, two altnets have announced plans to deploy fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) networks of their own. Iliad Group, the parent company of Free Telecom, has said it will connect up to 4 million homes in France by 2012. It joins NetCologne, which says it will extend fibre to 115,000 buildings in Germany by 2011.
