Fuel injection equipment on truck and bus diesel engines has come a long way in a short time. It was hardly more than a dozen years ago that the typical maximum working pressure demanded of in-line fuel pumps was 1,000 to 1,200 bar (14,500 to 17,400psi). Then, in the mid-nineties, along came high-pressure unit injectors (Volvo, Scania and lveco) and unit pumps (Daf and Mercedes) together with a seemingly inexorable rise in injection pressures, from 1,600 to 1,800 and 2,000 bar.
