Washington, D.C, home to some of the nation's worst traffic - and, some would say, drivers - may soon legalize self-driving cars. The Washington city council recently held a hearing on such legislation, sponsored by Mary Cheh, the Ward 3 councilmember. Cheh has made some changes to the bill in response to criticism, such as by dropping a requirement that driverless cars would need to run on alternative energy, but challenges remain.
