摘要

Researchers at Bristol Robotics Laboratory (BRL) in England are working toward completing self-sufficient, self-powering "release and forget" roving robots that could snack on fruit and insects for power. A small team led by Professor Chris Melhuish, and including John Greenman, Ioannis Ieropoulos and Ian Horsfield, has been working for several years on an "EcoBot" capable of generating its own power. Early development has involved Microbial Fuel Cell (MFC) technology to extract electrical energy from both refined foods in the form of sugar and unrefined foods such as insects and fruit. Melhuish says a key part of the effort has involved working out how best to extract energy from bio-mass.
