The USAF will begin buying an initial batch of Northrop Grumman ADM-160A Miniature Air-Launched Decoys (MALD) once the low-cost, higher performance weapon successfully completes a flight test program delayed since late last year. MALD successfully completed two captive carriage flight trials last October, but failed a critical flight test in December when the decoy's 50lb thrust Hamilton Sundstrand TJ50 turbojet caught fire.
