The US Army's Aviation Development Directorate (ADD) is executing the National Rotorcraft Technology Center (NRTC) program to focus government, industry and academia resources on emerging, pre-competitive, high-priority technology development to maintain world preeminence in rotorcraft technology. Additionally, the NRTC exists to facilitate development of a US national strategy for selected rotorcraft technologies, including cost and risk sharing among the participants.The NRTC also enables information exchange among participants and multi-company pursuit of overcoming pre-competitive technology barriers. Furthermore, the NRTC strengthens academia's contribution to rotorcraft research and technology. Finally, the NRTC enables the insertion of highly innovative technology through participation with US non-traditional defense contractors (NDCs), and strengthens the capability of these NDCs through the sharing of rotorcraft technology intellectual property.
