The US Army's top aviator, Gen. James C. McConville was confirmed by the Senate in May to become the next US Army Chief of Staff. McConville has been serving as the Vice Chief of Staff since June 2017 and has spent much of that time overhauling the service's modernization infrastructure, now consolidated as the Army Future Command, as the "senior mentor" to the Future Vertical Lift (FVL) Cross Functional Team. He is a Master Army Aviator qualified in the OH-58 Kiowa Warrior, the AH-64D Longbow Apache, the AH-6, AH-1 Cobra and other aircraft. McConville will succeed Gen. Mark A. Milley this summer when Milley assumes his new role as the next Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
