I decided to write this article in the hopes of preventing more such accidents. Please read it and start up conversations with other seaplane pilots to spread the word. I grew up on the water, lived and worked on the water, and have been a seaplane pilot/instructor for about 20 years (so far accident free). My father has been flying for more than 50 years and also is accident free. Together we operate a small mom-and-pop type of seaplane school called Florida Seaplanes. We have had our share of mistakes, and we try to teach students about our experiences so they don't have to repeat our mistakes. I will try to shed some light on why capsizing accidents happen and what we can do to prevent them.
