Summer is a time to enjoy early morning seaplane flights and cross-country seaplane adventures, joys that I hope many of you are experiencing now. Earlier this year I had the opportunity to do some flying in Alaska following the Alaska Airmen's Association's annual Great Alaska Aviation Gathering, and in sharp contrast to last year the temperature in Anchorage reached 72 degrees on the Saturday of the show, which was quite a bit different than the blowing snow and 32 degrees that we shivered through last year. Just to bring the point home, last year the ice was still 30 inches thick on Lake Hood during the show, and this year floatplanes were starting to use the water and the locals flocked to the Millennium Alaska Hotel on the Lake Hood shoreline to enjoy the outdoor patio at the Fancy Moose Lounge.
