Patrick Tuttle, the FAA Designated Examiner for Austin Watson's CFI checkride, was well-qualified for the task. He holds an ATP certificate with single- and multiengine land and sea ratings, is a Gold Seal CFII, has been an Examiner since 1987, has logged more than 15,000 hours including 5,000 in seaplanes, and has flown seaplanes commercially throughout the U.S. lower 48, Alaska, Canada, and the Caribbean. Tuttle estimates that 40 percent of the practical tests he has administered have been in seaplanes. How much of Watson's CFI checkride in his straight-float Cessna 172XP was float specific?
