Under a one-year exchange agreement with Westlands Water District ("WWD") and San Luis Water District ("SLWD"), the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California ("MWD") will receive up to 150,000 AF of water stored in San Luis Reservoir this year. WWD and SLWD would each provide up to 75,000 AF.rnThe water is surplus to WWD and SLWD irrigation needs this year and could spill from the Central Valley Project ("CVP") portion of the reservoir. However, because a spill from the State Water Project ("SWP") portion of the reservoir is less likely, exchanging to an SWP contractor preserves the supply. Metropolitan intends to move the water into storage space that it has available in southern California.
