摘要

With Zimbabwe's flue-cured production having fallen by more than 70% within the past four years, and with many growers contracting their crops, questions are being asked about the viability of the country's three auction floors. Flue-cured tobacco sales in Harare were expected to reach only 65m kg by the time that they finished at the end of August (this report was written just before the end of the month), and 5m kg of this was thought to be carry-over tobacco from the previous season. Reports suggest that this crop includes some tobacco of reasonable quality, but also some poor quality tobacco. The wastage rate was running at about 8% in early August.
