摘要

This paper’s aim is to test the gravity model performance, in context of previously known trade flows (context (a)) and as a predictor model (context (b)). In context (a), the model is used to explain trade flow behavior. Testing of several econometric equations determined the choice for a spatial error model, considering an additional variable: the origin’s specialization on product k exports. The model was applied individually to ten products, allowing the assessment of product specific coefficients. In context (b), the results are not satisfactory, suggesting that the gravity model is not the most adequate to generate undisclosed trade data.
