Coronary heart disease (CHD) is one of the leading causes of human morbidity and mortality here in the western world, and its impact in newly industrialized countries such as China and India is growing dramatically. Alongside the 'classic' risk factors such as smoking, Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, malnutrition and a sedentary lifestyle, genetic predisposition plays an important role in the development of CHD. In their impressive study nearly 20 years ago, Marenberg et al. evaluated the effect of genetics on CHD by analyzing data from the Swedish Twin register [l].
