Last year, it was called BPAmoco Alive. This year it WAS live: BP launched the 50th edition of its yearly "Statistical Review of World Energy" by live webcast from New York. Although this year's launch followed in a tradition laid down over the past half century, it also represented a departure from the past I several important ways.First, BP is a different company than it was even a year ago, let alone 50 years ago. It is now more than a year since BP's acquisition of Amoco and ARCO, and the choice of venue for the launch of the review reflects the supreme importance of the U.S. market to the company today. Although some might argue that BP was too quick to drop the names of its two U.S. acquisitions, they are largely responsible for the fact that around 45 percent of BP's assets and 45 percent of employees are now located in the U.S.
