摘要

Golightly and Allen1 provide insightful comments regarding the conclusions of our earlier paper.2 They raise a number of very important areas for further research, which should be commended. The key recommendations made included the need to investigate the effects of exercise and adherence to exercise programmes in 'real world' people with osteoarthritis, who present with severe osteoarthritis symptoms, multi-joint pain, and multiple co-morbidities.1 In this commentary, these principles will be developed to explore their importance in a population that is expected to pose a greater burden on health-care services over the forthcoming decades.
